Cellular Origins of Ferroptosis Mapped in Real Time Using Glowing Antioxidant Probes
Scientists have developed glowing antioxidant probes that illuminate ferroptosis as it unfolds within living cells. The research identifies the endoplasmic reticulum as the starting point for this form of cell death, opening new therapeutic possibilities.
Breakthrough in Cell Death Tracking
Researchers at McGill University have developed a novel method to observe ferroptosis—a form of programmed cell death—as it occurs in real time within living cells, according to their study published in Nature Chemistry. The team used custom-built antioxidant probes that emit light as they’re consumed, allowing them to track the precise cellular location where ferroptosis begins.
