The project centers around the newly established ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence in Limassol, which sources indicate represents a major upgrade to remote-sensing facilities originally launched in 2007. The center reportedly covers all areas of Earth observation, including extreme weather monitoring, agricultural assessment, and natural disaster response. Among its leading technologies is a €3.9 million satellite antenna that gives Cyprus real-time access to satellite data, including high-resolution imagery crucial for monitoring maritime activity, tracking wildfires, and responding to floods.
