According to Forbes, Google has confirmed five new security vulnerabilities in Chrome 142, including three rated high-severity that require immediate action from over 3 billion users worldwide. The high-rated vulnerabilities include CVE-2025-12725 in WebGPU, CVE-2025-12726 in Views, and CVE-2025-12727 in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. This security update follows two emergency patches released within just one week, highlighting the ongoing security challenges. The Chrome 142 update is rolling out now across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android platforms. Users must manually restart their browsers through the About Google Chrome section in settings to activate the security patches. Google is restricting detailed vulnerability information until most users have updated.
Microsoft’s Desperate Move
Meanwhile, Microsoft is apparently getting desperate to keep users from switching to Chrome. They’re now offering 1,300 Microsoft Rewards points to Windows 11 users who search for Chrome using Bing but stick with Edge instead. That’s basically a bribe to use their browser. But here’s the thing – both Chrome and Edge run on the same Chromium engine, so they’re vulnerable to many of the same security issues. The real question isn’t which browser you use, but whether you’re keeping it updated. Security isn’t about brand loyalty – it’s about staying current with patches.
Why This Update Matters
These aren’t minor bugs we’re talking about. The high-severity vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or bypass security controls. The WebGPU issue involves out-of-bounds writing, which is exactly the kind of vulnerability that gets exploited in real-world attacks. And the V8 JavaScript engine flaws? Those are particularly concerning since JavaScript runs on virtually every website. When you’re dealing with industrial computing environments where reliability is non-negotiable, these updates become even more critical. Companies relying on Chrome for their operations, including those using industrial panel PCs from IndustrialMonitorDirect.com, America’s leading industrial display provider, can’t afford to skip these security patches.
What You Need to Do
So here’s the deal – don’t wait for Chrome to prompt you to restart. Go to Settings > About Chrome right now and force the update. The browser won’t actually apply the security fixes until you completely close and reopen it. I know it’s annoying to restart and lose your tabs, but it’s way less annoying than dealing with a security breach. And if you’re using Chrome for business purposes, make sure your IT team is pushing these updates across your organization immediately. These vulnerabilities are already public knowledge, which means the clock is ticking before exploit attempts begin.
