X is down again, and users aren't happy - Professional coverage

According to Digital Trends, X is experiencing another major service outage affecting thousands of users primarily in the United States. The platform went down mere days after a previous Cloudflare disruption impacted X and other websites. As of 10:45 ET, Downdetector had logged over 18,000 reports of service disruption, with that number climbing to over 20,400 reports in the US alone by the time of publication. The outage appears localized, with users in India reporting normal functionality while those in the US, UK, Brazil, Canada, and Australia experience issues. Interestingly, the official X Developer Platform Status page claims all systems are operational despite the widespread reports.

The outage pattern is becoming a problem

Here’s the thing: this isn’t just a random blip. We’re talking about the second major outage in what, a week? That’s a pattern, not an anomaly. And when your official status page says everything’s fine while thousands of users can’t access your service, that’s a communications failure on top of a technical one.

What’s really concerning is how these disruptions seem to be hitting core functionality. We’re not talking about minor features here – the feed refresh, which is basically the entire point of a social media platform, is completely broken for affected users. When your main product stops working repeatedly, that’s when people start looking for alternatives.

Serious questions about reliability

So what does this mean for X’s future? Look, platforms live and die by reliability. Remember when Twitter was the go-to for real-time information during emergencies and major events? Can you trust a platform that goes down this frequently with that kind of responsibility anymore?

The timing couldn’t be worse either. With competitors constantly emerging and existing platforms improving their real-time features, repeated outages give users every reason to explore other options. Basically, every time X goes down, it’s essentially running ads for its competitors.

And let’s be honest – when your status page contradicts what thousands of users are experiencing, you’re not just dealing with a technical problem. You’ve got a credibility problem too. How can businesses, journalists, or anyone relying on the platform trust it when the official communication doesn’t match reality?
